ELÍAS PIÑA
LAS MATAS

Southwest Border Base

As we open the new ministry base we would like to explain  a little bit of the base.

The Dominican Republic is divided into 31 provinces and each province is then divided into counties which are then divided into communities. Our Base contains 8 counties, two that belong to San Juan and 6 that belong to the province of Elias Piña. Elias Piña and San Juan are both located near the border with Haití and are some of the most impoverished places in the Dominican Republic.

With a population of over 100k habitants these are some of the most religiously active communities in the country. The practice of Catholicism and voodoo has created a syncretism that is then reflected in people being very open to the gospel yet with little to no commitment.

In such places a long committed work is needed. It is crucial that churches as a body engage with communities where no one has ever heard of the gospel. It is, nevertheless, beeded that the engagement is long and steady.

Usually, when a community is unreached there are several reasons for this. Either the church is just unaware of the gospel need in their area or it lacks workers or having workers and feeling called and ready to go it lacks resources.

Our desire is to supply every need of the gospel work to be done, so sometimes we train churches, and sometimes we find ways to provide funds for the church to go.
