DAJABON

Southwest Border Base

The Base of Dajabon is located in the border of Dominican Rep. and Haiti, it is between the North of Province of Elias Piña and the South of The Province of Dajabon. .

This Base is characterized by the high mountains, it is compounded for more than 30 little villages. Most of the community in this Base are in the far and high mountains. Many of them are located at foot of a National Park, called “Nalga de Maco”.

Maybe because of  the location the government do not care about this zone of the country which makes that people don’t have access to solve their main need.  That something that makes the life in these countryside very hard. People are supported by farming the land, but they depend of the rain for planting their crops. Another source for living are the internationals free markers that happens between both nations, this only is possible in those places that are closer to the main City.

This zone has two ways of communication. One of the way to connect those places is through the international road, this one do it crossing both countries, is a hard road because of holes, but it is flat. In the hand there is road that cross all the Villages, it do it through the long mountain, it is a very hard road. It has many creeks, rivers and hills which makes this one attractive, but at the same time very uncomfortable.

The most difficult situation in this zone has to do with spiritual one. In those communities their main believes are idolatry, witchcraft, this happen because they are close to Haiti and the only religion that has established is Catholic Church. Not many people has access to the Bible, just some people have read it.

Gambling has become in the principle activity for those places. Being rooster fight the one that has invaded those countries. While they fight their rooster, they play money in Dice Game and Dominos. Becoming this activity in the most popular in the long line of poor communities in the border of Dominican Republic and Haiti.
